Goddard Riverside Family Council is a forum for advocacy
and community education on local, state, and federal
policy issues of concern to our neighbors, program
participants, staff, and friends of Goddard Riverside.
Membership
is open to anyone who is interested.
At monthly meetings,
members organize and encourage participation in a
range of activities that serve to keep policymakers
aware of citizens’ views. The activities include
voter
registration/get-out-the-vote campaigns, rallies,
demonstrations,
community forums, testimony before legislative bodies,
and letter writing campaigns. The Family Council collaborates
with numerous other groups to target
such issues as housing, rent laws, Medicare, school
governance and funding, immigration and summer jobs
for teens.
Family Council committees are involved in day-to-day organizing
work. They are Voter Registration, Public Issues, Jobs, Housing
and the Youth Council. The Youth Council provides an opportunity
for young people in our programs and from the broader community
to speak out on issues of relevance to them and to learn the basics
of grassroots community activism and leadership.
