ENDOWMENT GOAL: $1 MILLION
Bhe Bernie Wohl Endowment Fund was originally created in 1998 upon Bernie’s retirement as Executive Director of Goddard Riverside, a position he held for 26 years. The Fund is a self-sustaining source of income we use to provide low-income families with affordable, high quality childcare, educational supports, and enrichment activities for their children.

Our goal now is to increase The Fund by $1 million to a total of $2.6 million. A portion of the income from The Fund will subsidize children’s and youth programming and the remainder will be reinvested in The Fund to keep it growing.

There is little government support for our youth programs, particularly for after school, summer camp, and college counseling services. These are, however, high priority programs for which endowment funds are critical. Please consider making a gift now to The Bernie Wohl Campaign for Kids, knowing that your contribution will be invested in programs that help children reach their full potential and help our city to a brighter future.

Goddard Riverside’s programs for children and youth annually serve more than 3,500 young people living in pockets of poverty on the Upper West Side and in Harlem. Your gift to The Bernie Wohl Endowment Fund will help sustain:

  • Two comprehensive early childhood education programs for children ages two to six and their families, which promote intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth through the exploration of science, nature and art.
  • The OPTIONS Center for Educational and Career Choice, which makes college accessible to students through one-to-one educational counseling, mentoring, tutoring, SAT preparation, assistance with admissions and financial aid applications, and visits to college campuses.
  • Children's After-School Program that provides academic support and an exciting theme-based curriculum incorporating hands-on learning activities.
  • Summer enrichment activities, including Summer Day Camp for elementary and middle schoolers and a summer youth employment program for high school students.
  • Annual repairs and routine improvements to the Bernie Wohl Center.
