1947, Goddard Riverside held its first charity dance for youngsters
from Manhattan private schools and launched an annual tradition.
Now hundreds of 5th to 8th graders attend the Goddard Gaieties every
year.
The spirit of the Goddard Gaieties – fun, safe, social events
for a good cause – has endured but little else is the same.
Jeans have replaced party dresses, a DJ plays a mix of popular music
in lieu of a live orchestra, and square dancing has been replaced
by the latest steps.
