or
homeless adults living on the streets and in the subways
and parks of the Upper West Side and West Harlem, there
is always a welcome at Goddard Riverside.
Goddard Riverside has been a pioneer in developing programs to
assist homeless people on the path to stability and permanent housing.
Our focus is on adults with severe and persistent mental illness,
including mentally ill chemically addicted (MICA) individuals, who
have been living outdoors for a long period of time. We target people
who would not seek out services or housing on their own because
of the extent and complications of their disabilities.
In 1979, Goddard Riverside established one of New
York City’s first mobile street
outreach teams. We provide for immediate needs
with medical and psychiatric care, food and shelter
and offer assistance at every step toward a better
life. Today our programs for homeless people include
outreach, a drop-in lounge, a psychosocial day program,
a MICA Network, a housing placement team, transitional
and permanent supportive housing, vocational training
and job placement, and an Assertive
Community Treatment (ACT) Team.
Our clients can progress at their own speed without having to be
referred to different agencies for each service. They
build bonds of warmth and trust with our staff, which
increases their willingness to accept help.
A gift to Goddard Riverside provides hope and essential
services to homeless people. Donate
