Reachout is the foundation for all of Goddard Riverside’s programs
for homeless people. It is the entry point to a continuum of care
for over 5,000 people each year.
Twice every weekday, Project Reachout workers make their way through
Central Park, Riverside Park and the streets of the Upper West Side
and West Harlem seeking to engage homeless adults with the offering
of a sandwich and further help. They visit isolated, psychotic individuals
repeatedly, gently encouraging each person to consider dropping
by the Project Reachout lounge where they can relax and get respite
from life on the street.
In the lounge, homeless people can over time develop a trusting
relationship with our staff. They can obtain assistance with immediate
needs, such as food, clothing, showering and delousing, medical
and psychiatric care, entitlement assistance and referrals to and
follow-up regarding shelter, detoxification, substance abuse treatment,
housing and other needs.
Since its founding in 1979, Project Reachout has
been recognized for its special expertise in stabilizing
and housing the most fragile and disorganized homeless
people. At Goddard Riverside, they find the support,
resources, and treatment they need to heal from years
of isolated life on the streets, achieve permanent
housing, and become active members of the community.
A gift to Goddard Riverside gives homeless people
the support, resources, and treatment they need to
become active members of the community. Donate
