Opportunities (TOPOP) is Goddard Riverside’s vocational rehabilitation,
training and job placement program for mentally ill homeless and formerly
homeless adults who seek to rebuild their lives through work.
TOPOP participants develop skills that will help them succeed in
a variety of work settings. The program helps over 60 adults each
year obtain and maintain competitive wage employment in the community.
TOPOP staff works with each individual to assess his or her specific
vocational skills and interest and identifies potential
employers. Recent jobs developed by TOPOP staff include
a food service position at a gourmet food store, a
clerical position at a media company, and several
messenger and delivery positions. TOPOP also operates
Green Keepers,
a horticulture and sanitation services team. Once
participants begin working, TOPOP offers them on-going
support and on-site job coaching as necessary.
Some 80% of participants maintain employment for over one year.
