GODDARD RIVERSIDE
COMMUNITY CENTER
ANNUAL NEW YORK BOOK FAIR TURNS 20!
Over 2,000 New Yorkers shopped till they dropped at
Goddard Riverside Community Center’s 20th Annual
New York Book Fair, held on Saturday, November 18,
2006 and Sunday, November 19, 2006 at Goddard Riverside’s
headquarters at 593 Columbus Avenue. Lured in by big
bargains and rewarded with super savings of over 50%
off more than 25,000 new books and gift items, guests
did their holiday shopping while supporting a great
cause. A signature charitable project of the publishing
industry, the New York Book Fair unites giants of
the publishing industry in support of Goddard Riverside
Community Center, a non-profit organization, which
operates 22 programs at 16 sites throughout the community
of the Upper West Side and Harlem. This unique fundraiser
brought in more than $100,000 with 85 cents of each
dollar spent at the Fair going directly to support
Goddard Riverside’s mission of providing basic
services such as meals, shelter, and education, as
well as recreational, cultural and arts activities
that enrich community life.
In addition to the weekend-long shopping extravaganza,
the Book Fair kicked off with its signature opening
party, the Book Bash, on Friday, November 17, 2006
and concluded with a gala dinner on Monday, November
20, 2006 to honor Goddard Riverside Board Member,
Peter Workman. Mr. Workman is founder and publisher
of Workman Publishing Company and a longtime Goddard
Riverside supporter. Due to the munificent underwriting
of the host committee, 100% of the proceeds from Mr.
Workman’s tribute will benefit the Fund for
Youth Education at Goddard Riverside.
Every year for the past two decades, Goddard Riverside
has hosted its Book Fair on the weekend before Thanksgiving.
Its success stems from the loyalty of dedicated volunteers
and shoppers, as well as generous donations from the
publishing industry, the real estate community and
local businesses. For more information about the Book
Fair and how to get involved next year, please visit
