EVENT:
Up on the Roof...
"GREEN KEEPERS," FORMERLY HOMELESS ADULTS LIVING WITH
MENTAL ILLNESS, BEAUTIFY A ROOFTOP GARDEN
Participants in Goddard Riverside Community Center’s
Green Keepers
program maintain a rooftop garden they originally
designed and planted. With 24 window boxes, roses,
large potted annuals and a variety of plants, the
Green Keepers’
garden boasts beautiful views of the Hudson River
and Westside skyline. The program helps individuals
who are living with mental illness and have interrupted
or no work histories enter the workforce through meaningful
employment opportunities.
Green Keepers
are trained in beautification services including landscaping,
planting, mulching, soil preparation, weeding, pruning
and watering. Through Green Keepers, Goddard Riverside
offers a way for these individuals to work on projects
in a supportive environment while building confidence,
self-esteem and community reintegration.
