GODDARD RIVERSIDE COMMUNITY CENTER ANNOUNCES STAFF CHANGES

Goddard Riverside Community Center, a not-for-profit organization on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, has named Carolyn Nash, LCSW, as the organization’s Associate Director. She will succeed Ellen Eisenman who retired at the end of September.

Ms. Nash will officially assume her new responsibilities on October 15. She most recently served as the Director of the Survival Portfolio at the Robin Hood Foundation, an innovative and influential philanthropic organization with a mission of eliminating poverty in New York City. While there, she oversaw a $19.5 million portfolio and managed the portfolio’s expansion to include an immigrant initiative and a stronger health component for underserved New Yorkers.

“Carolyn Nash comes to us with a tremendous background steeped in developing and providing services in the health and welfare fields for a variety of populations,” said Stephan Russo, Goddard Riverside Community Center Executive Director. “She possesses a powerful combination of passion, people skills and management experience that will benefit Goddard Riverside as our programs grow and we tackle new challenges.”

Prior to joining the Robin Hood Foundation, Ms. Nash served as Executive Director of Sanctuary for Families. Before that, for more than a decade, she served Long Island College Hospital, both as Administrator of their Office of Grants & Research and as Director of Social Work. Ms. Nash holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vassar College and a Masters degree in Social Work from Columbia University School of Social Work. She is a Member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Society for Social Work Administrators in Health Care, the Non Profit Coordinating Committee of New York City and the New York Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

She looks forward to the opportunity to utilize her broad range of skills and experience at Goddard Riverside Community Center. “I am thrilled to join Goddard Riverside Community Center and honored to build upon Ms. Eisenman’s decades of accomplishment in transforming the lives of New Yorkers,” said Nash.

After 21 years at Goddard Riverside, including 16 years as the organization’s Associate Director, Ellen Eisenman retires to pursue her passion for photography. During her tenure at Goddard Riverside Community Center, Ms. Eisenman expanded and revamped essential programs. For older adults, she initiated a Health Project to address the special medical needs of tenants in the organization’s supportive housing for elderly people. She transformed youth programs, creating a children’s library and she expanded community cultural programs, developing a concert series that educated New Yorkers about the music of many countries. In the fight against AIDS, Ms. Eisenman led by example, educating and encouraging other staff members to address the disease and its impact on the lives of New Yorkers.

“It has been my pleasure to work with Ellen and learn from her imagination, skill and ability to engage all people, young and old. Her contributions to the shape and energy of Goddard Riverside Community Center’s programs and services are countless,” said Russo.

Goddard Riverside Community Center provides services to 16,000 people annually from Manhattan’s Upper West Side and Harlem communities. Twenty-two programs at 16 sites reach out to children and youth, families, homeless people and older adults. Goddard Riverside, a not-for-profit organization, provides basic services such as meals, shelter and education, and enriches community life with recreational, cultural and arts activities. The agency manages 600 units of affordable housing. In addition, advocacy and legal services offer individuals and groups a voice in their community and a way to address critical social issues.
